News from Virgin & Delta Airlines

New Routes

Virgin are now operating a twice daily service from Heathrow to Johannesburg.

From 31st March 2019 Virgin will be operating a direct service from Heathrow to Las Vegas.

A second service to Boston from Heathrow

And they have reintroduced a seasonal direct service to Barbados up until 19 Feb 2019 to give you the opportunity to enjoy some winter sun!

In Partnership with Delta Airlines, Virgin are boosting their flight coverage to the US with 2 new direct flights from the UK, one to Portland and one to Detroit.  Portland will be the only non-stop flight from the UK and is due to be a daily flight, up from 4 times a week.

The second daily Detroit flight offers travellers more opportunity to travel through the US, providing excellent connections to more than 90 destinations including Chicago, Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Orlando.

Both services will be operating using their Boeing 767-300 ER aircraft.

Fuel for Thought

Virgin Atlantic is shaking things up once again! They have recently completed the first ever commercial flight using fuel partly made from recycled industrial waste.

This sustainable aviation fuel – courtesy of LanzaTech – who convert carbon waste into fuel and chemical products – is part of Virgin’s ongoing commitment to reduce carbon emissions and step up to environmental challenges. They have already taken steps to reduce CO² emissions, including investment in their amazing A350-1000 aircraft.

The fuel was used on a landmark flight from Orlando to Gatwick, demonstrating the very real possibility of harnessing ground-breaking, low-carbon technology in mainstream aviation.

Bag Tracking with Delta

Delta have rolled out a new industry-leading service. This new innovation allows travelers to keep track of their checked bags on its flights between London Heathrow and the United States via their mobile phones.

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) bag tags are added to all checked luggage which are read by RFID antennas at various points along the journey. Travelers will receive real-time updates via the Fly Delta app on their luggage, from check in to the arrival carousel.

In addition to live updates, customers can also access a map view of their bag’s journey when travelling in the United States through the app.
