The move from Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport to Istanbul’s New Airport is said to have been delayed until March 2019. Airlines were due to switch over at the end of December. It is reported that the new airport will handle up to 90 million passengers per year which will raise to 150 million in the next 10 years. The new airport has 114 gates, almost triple to what Ataturk Airport had. The New Airport has been officially opened but is currently only serving a few domestic and regional routes.
Istanbul’s New Airport is located in Arnavutkoy district on the European side of the city, approx. 35kms from downtown.
